My wonderful sister sadly passed away 16th October 2022 from cancer and her strong faith inspired me to make my first Camino walk to Santiago de Compostela in November 2022.

This book is a daily account of my experiences as a more senior person on this ancient and much trodden pilgrimage route.   The idea of recounting my tales is to encourage others with a similar plight to undertake a challenge that will give them time and space to reflect amongst the magnificent scenery that has been admired by millions over the centuries.  One of the attractions is that you do not have to be of religious faith to benefit from the power and physical energy you can gain.

Along the way, I met numerous folk who were all taking time out of their normal lives to refresh their spiritual  needs. As mental well-being is so important, I can attest that walking the Camino and being out in the beautiful, Spanish countryside provides significant benefits for the mind. It is both accessible and affordable too.

I feel that my Camino experience really helped me to manage my grief, so I would love to introduce others to this adventure.

Camino statistics state that in 2023 a record 446,035 pilgrims completed the hike, of which women pilgrims outnumbered men. Despite the Camino being a traditional Catholic pilgrimage, 23.3% of those who walked the route completed it for nonreligious reasons.

The Camino is still relatively untapped, so my hope is that my book (with its own individual interpretation) might encourage others to slip on their hiking boots.
